RouteAnalyst

Smart Driving Analysis & Safety Assistant

Main Features

How It Works

  1. Install RouteAnalyst from the Garmin Connect IQ Store onto your watch.
(Compatible with all recent Fenix, Epix, Forerunner, Venu, and more.)
  2. Mount the Watch Properly — For accurate data, do not wear the watch on your wrist while driving!
Securely fix it on your car’s center console or dashboard, screen facing forward and positioned horizontally.
  3. Calibrate (strongly recommended for first use, or after moving the mount):
Use the in-app calibration menu. Keep the car stationary on level ground, press “Calibrate,” and wait a few seconds. This zeroes the sensors for your car and mounting angle.
  4. Pair with Your Phone (Bluetooth + Garmin Connect app):
Enables uploads and access to premium analytics. You can use RouteAnalyst without a phone, but cloud features require it.
  5. Start Driving — Select RouteAnalyst from the app menu on your watch and press Start. The app runs in real-time, analyzing every movement, turn, and bump.
  6. During Driving:
    - No user interaction needed! RouteAnalyst automatically records and classifies all events in the background.
    - "TRIAL MODE" is shown on screen if not subscribed; trip data is sent to the server for temporary analysis and summary, but only the last trip's details are stored and viewable.
  7. Finish & Review:
At the end of your trip, stop the session. Instantly view the pie chart and event summary on the watch.
Premium users get web dashboards, map views, export, and unlimited trip history.

Tip: Mounting the watch in the same orientation every time gives the best, most consistent analysis!

Connectivity Requirements

RouteAnalyst can analyze and log trips.

For Premium features, syncing, and cloud dashboards:
- Keep Bluetooth enabled on your watch and phone.
- Run the Garmin Connect app on your phone for data transfer.
- Internet connection on the phone allows automatic trip uploads and web analytics.

Trial mode: Trip data is uploaded to the server for processing and summary generation, but only your most recent session is stored temporarily. Online dashboards and long-term trip history are available only to premium subscribers.

Driving Events & Flags

RouteAnalyst detects dozens of specific driving events and road conditions in real time.
Each event ("flag") is analyzed using sensor data and impacts your driving scores.
Below is the full glossary of all events and their meaning:

🤚 Smooth Driving Consistent, calm driving with minimal acceleration and steering variation.
🛑 Hard Braking Sudden, strong deceleration—emergency or harsh braking.
🟠 Moderate Braking Noticeable but not extreme braking—safe but assertive.
🟡 Mild Braking Light, gentle slowing—barely perceptible deceleration.
🟢 Soft Braking Very soft, smooth brake application—ideal in traffic.
🏎️ Aggressive Acceleration Very strong, rapid acceleration—“flooring it,” racing starts.
🟧 Moderate Acceleration Clearly quicker-than-normal, but not harsh acceleration.
🟨 Mild Acceleration Gentle speed-up—smooth, efficient driving.
🔁 Sharp Steering Abrupt, large-angle steering input—quick turns or swerves.
Safe Driving No dangerous or harsh events—model, exemplary driving.
🔄 Frequent Turning Continuous curves, many lane changes, or winding roads.
〰️ Zigzag Driving Weaving, swerving, or unstable lateral movements.
Coasting Rolling or gliding with minimal acceleration—neutral or downhill.
🚀 Speeding Up Sustained, increasing speed—prolonged acceleration phase.
🐢 Slowing Down Sustained, decreasing speed—prolonged deceleration phase.
Constant Speed Nearly unchanging speed—cruise control or steady highway travel.
⬅️ Left Turn Detected leftward turn, bend, or lane change.
➡️ Right Turn Detected rightward turn, bend, or lane change.
🔃 U-Turn Complete reversal of direction—U-turn or full loop.
📉 Braking Intensity High Extreme, maximum detected braking force.
📈 Accelerating Intensity High Extreme, maximum detected acceleration force.
⤴️ Sharp Curve Tight, forceful curve or bend—strong lateral force.
⏸️ Idle Vehicle stopped, engine likely running.
⚠️ Harsh Event Any severe or extreme incident (aggregated warning).
🛣️ Lane Departure Strong sideways movement—possible unintentional lane exit.
💫 Side Slip Lateral sliding or minor drifting—loss of side grip.
Crash Risk Dangerously high forces—potential collision risk detected.
💥 Crash Detected Major impact—probable accident event recorded.
🟫 Speed Bump Sharp vertical jolt—speed bump or raised road detected.
💢 Strong Vibration Intense vibration—rough or poor road surface.
🌡️ Overheating Warning Sensor temperature too high—overheating risk.
🏁 Jackrabbit Start Sudden, strong acceleration from a stop—"drag race" start.
🕳️ Pothole Detected Abrupt drop—pothole or deep road damage.
🔀 Quick Lane Change Very fast lane change—rapid consecutive side movements.
Circular Driving Continuous circular or roundabout movement.
🔥 Power Oversteer High-force cornering—drifting or sports driving detected.
🔌 Idle Engine Off Completely stationary, engine off—parking likely.
⛰️ Uphill Driving uphill—positive pitch angle detected.
🏞️ Downhill Driving downhill—negative pitch angle detected.
🌊 Sloshy Driving Swaying, rocking movement—mild but unstable lateral motion.
🛞 Hard Cornering High-speed, forceful turning—tight corners or racing maneuvers.
💎 Extreme Side Slip Very strong sideways drift—loss of full traction/control.
🛫 Jump Vehicle leaves the ground—jump detected, hard landing follows.
🤸 Roll Event Vehicle rollover or extreme roll angle detected.
🪨 Harsh Road Prolonged rough road—constant vibration or bumps.
🌀 Handbrake Turn Detected handbrake-induced spin or tight sliding turn.
🅿️ Parking Maneuver Low-speed, multi-directional movement—parking detected.
